Is there any continued impact? In 2023, 海角原创鈥檚 Global Encounters (GE) sent the Men鈥檚 Soccer Team to Kyrgyzstan to join national Samat in conducting soccer clinics. (Read the original post.) Though there were the expected challenges of cultural and language differences, which were especially pronounced in a repressive Islamic environment, team members developed relationships with nationals both on the field and through Google Translate. It was a dynamic experience, but was there any ongoing benefit? Recently we contacted Samat to ask that very question. To aid our understanding, he prefaced his reply by explaining his background. Samat said, 鈥淚 lost my childhood early.鈥 His dysfunctional family splintered. Rejected by his father, he and his six siblings and mother faced grave financial hardship. 鈥淕od gave me football (soccer),鈥 he claimed, 鈥渁s a gift of comfort.鈥 Samat made a name for himself in a city league and realized that soccer was a 鈥減owerful tool.鈥 Serving as a social worker, he participated in launching a soccer project, teaching respect and moral values. Though the organization was not Christian, and though open evangelism was prohibited, his godly example drew players to Christ. After the […]

Hannah Glass: With the Lord /mbu-news/hannah-glass-with-the-lord/ Mon, 11 Nov 2024 21:13:05 +0000 /?p=146644 On Sunday, November 10, 2024, following an allergic reaction, Hannah Glass, a junior English Education major at MBU, unexpectedly went home to be with the Lord. Hannah lived with her parents and three brothers in a nearby community and attended Calvary Baptist Church in Jefferson. She was an exceptional student and a sweet-spirited servant in her church, with a heart for reaching souls with the gospel. She made a tremendous impact in her first year on campus and in the Academy, where she was conducting her education fieldwork. In death, Hannah鈥檚 family made it possible for others to receive life-giving transplants. Sunday afternoon as Hannah was wheeled into the OR at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, two hundred people joined an Honor Walk to express support, to salute the family鈥檚 sacrifice, and to sing hymns. That evening, in dorms across campus, faculty members and staff led students in times of prayer and sharing. During chapel on Monday morning, President Dr. David Anderson preached words of comfort from Scripture and shared wisdom from his own experience of loss. Student Life Office personnel and campus counselors have been available to support the spiritual needs of the student body. CEO Dr. Davis shared on […]

Student POV: 5 Things About College that No One Tells You /student-interests/5-things-about-college-no-one-tells-you/ Thu, 22 Aug 2024 14:27:32 +0000 /?p=138923 College is easy, right? Four years, eight semesters, and at least forty classes later, you鈥檒l have a degree. Easy probably isn鈥檛 the word I would use to describe that process. But understanding what you鈥檙e getting into can make the process simpler. Here are five things that no one tells you about college that can put you on the path to success: You Must Take Responsibility for Your Academic Success In college, you鈥檙e in control. You decide to do your homework or get up on time for class. No one forces you to earn good grades or have a productive routine. You鈥檙e responsible for every aspect of your education. Attending classes is a choice, turning in assignments on time is a choice, and following the rules is a choice. Taking responsibility is scary. For the first time, every decision you make will impact your future. So, take the initiative and decide to make choices that will lead to success. Scheduling Your Time is Essential Schedules can feel restrictive and stifling, but they will ultimately lead to more freedom. The college years are a time filled with opportunity. If you want to be involved as much as you can, you鈥檙e going to […]

Student POV: Developing Effective Time Management as a College Student /student-interests/student-pov-time-management/ Thu, 14 Mar 2024 15:00:26 +0000 /?p=138139 Time is one of the most precious gifts in this life – it can鈥檛 be bought, and it can鈥檛 be recovered. But most importantly, time is given by God. Every person has a responsibility to use this gift wisely because time is the essence of life. College students face unique challenges in this responsibility. They鈥檙e employees and students. They鈥檙e athletes and musicians. They鈥檙e roommates and friends. With so many commitments and people to consider, finding time for everything is difficult. Sadly, many people waste time, especially in college. Blaming a busy schedule for one鈥檚 failure in time management is tempting, but if students are honest, they will admit that they could use their time better. Understanding this challenge is the first step, but what is the solution? Implementing manageable routines into your day and understanding key concepts is a start to efficiently managing your time. Schedule The first step in effective time management is having a plan. Carefully plan out your schedule every week. As students juggle multiple time commitments, they need structure to succeed. Keeping a list of assignments, work schedules, and meetings is not a choice – it is essential.聽 Almost every student has dealt with disappointment after […]
