Welcome Miss Reagan Bill to the Applied Science Faculty

We are pleased to announce Reagan Bill as the new Teaching Assistant in the Department of Applied Science. Reagan hails from Ringgold, Louisiana, where she grew up at Southland Christian Ministries. As a staff child, she heard the gospel from infancy and was saved at age six. Emulating her parents’ ministry example, she has enjoyed playing the piano at church, teaching Sunday School, and serving in various positions at camp and at ��ԭ��. Those who know her appreciate her effervescent joy. “As a biology major, I have developed a love for science, and in being able to help with various study groups,” Reagan comments. Focusing on students who struggle, she adds, “I have also developed a love for teaching scientific concepts in a way that is easier to understand.” In this new role, she will assist students in analyzing data and understanding concepts and will prepare, supervise, and teach General Biology I and II, Microbiology, and Physics labs. Aria Saunders to Join Applied Science Department

Aria Saunders is poised to join MBU’s faculty for Fall 2024, where she will fill a vital role in the Applied Science Department, specifically focusing on Physical Science-related coursework. With a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Bioengineering from the University of Colorado, where she graduated at the top of her class, Saunders brings a wealth of academic knowledge and practical experience to her new role. Previously serving as a Teaching Assistant and Research Coordinator at the University of Colorado, specializing in Biomechanics, she has also contributed to the field through her published work on hypoglycemia treatments. Her expertise extends to areas such as Biomechanics and Physiology, which will undoubtedly enrich MBU’s Exercise Science program. She additionally has a testimony of excellence and commitment to ministry as a longtime member of Arvada Baptist Church in Arvada, Colorado, where she has served in the music ministry and with the youth group. Aria graduated from High School at Beth Eden Baptist School in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. MBU is blessed to welcome Aria Saunders to its faculty team.

Are you fascinated with the world of biochemistry but aren’t quite sure what career options are out there for you? Perhaps you are already considering a degree in Biochemistry but don’t know if it’s the right choice for you. Contrary to popular belief, biochemists do much more for our society than sit in a lab and mix chemicals. Similarly, you can do much more than you might think with a degree in Biochemistry. Let’s examine five specific disciplines that Mr. Tim Meier, Associate Professor of ��ԭ��’s Applied Science Department, suggests as possible career opportunities in the field of biochemistry. These disciplines are as follows: medical school, law enforcement/forensic science, pharmaceutical research, pharmacy school, and medical/scientific writing—any of which you can pursue with a Biochemistry degree from ��ԭ��! Adelle Markle (’23) | Ph.D. Student at UW Madison

Entering the secular field of science can be a daunting task. Adelle Markle, a Biochemistry major from Phillips, WI, wrestled with God’s will for her future with a career in science especially as she looked forward to graduation. She enjoyed science and loved working with her professors. But what would that look like after she graduated? Coming into her senior year, Adelle Markle considered her options: graduate school, another internship, or a job in the science field. Her professor and advisor, Mr. Timothy Meier, encouraged her to apply to graduate school. She applied to two schools for a total of four programs. She knew that with a university name like “��ԭ�� Baptist,” she would not be able to hide her faith, “and I was thankful that the name of my school kept me from trying, but I was nervous about what that would mean for my future.” But she also knew that MBU had challenged her ability to think critically, teaching her to read academic journal articles and providing good lab experience. Shawn Spencer, New Faculty in Department of Applied Science

Mr. Shawn Spencer will be joining the Applied Science faculty as a chemistry professor in the fall of 2022 at ��ԭ�� (MBU). He and his wife, Marla, have four children: Miriam, Morgan, Seth, and Paul. They currently live in Caldwell, West Virginia. Spencer holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from West Virginia University Institute of Technology and is currently completing an M.S. in Chemistry. In addition, he has earned an M.Div. from Summit University of Pennsylvania and an M.A. in Biblical Counseling from ��ԭ�� Baptist Seminary. He served in the Army Reserves, working with signal support systems and nuclear-biological-chemical detection systems and he also has experience as a chemical engineer. Besides his work as an engineer, Spencer has followed the Lord’s leading and served as a pastor, associate pastor, and biblical counselor. Most recently, Spencer served as a pastor at Central Baptist Church in Athens, Texas. Spencer is looking forward to joining the ministry of ��ԭ��. Using Science to Serve

Another school year has come and gone. And although this year may have come like any other, it has gone like no other in history. But that does not mean that this years’ graduates have accomplished any less. They have overcome. And if this last few months has taught us anything, it is the value of those who work in the science fields. MBU Applied Science Majors are ready to join those ranks. They dedicated themselves to leadership development, and now it is time to celebrate their accomplishments and their future. Tyler Nelson Hailing from Raleigh, NC, Tyler entered college with an excitement surrounding medicine and the sciences. He really wanted to put the applied into applied science. During his classes, the content sparked a true love for physical therapy in particular, and he knew that this was what he was meant to do. Four years later, he moves on from ��ԭ�� with hours of studying the world God created and wanting to learn it on a deeper level. Timothy Meier to join ��ԭ��’s Science faculty

��ԭ�� is excited to welcome Timothy Meier, a research scientist in molecular genetics and biochemistry, to its Science faculty in fall 2018. His desire is “to teach science in a Christian education setting to minister to the next generation of scientists.” Meier holds two master’s degrees, an MS in Microbiology from Clemson University, and an MA in Molecular Genetics from Washington University. He spent 25 years working for Eli Lilly and Company in the company’s Lilly Research Laboratories as a microbiologist and senior biochemist. For 17 of those years, he has been working on cancer research drug discovery, and before that, infectious diseases research. In addition, he has had 24 publications, 11 abstracts/posters/seminars, and holds four patents. Meier, his wife Kerry, and their two children will be coming to ��ԭ�� from Martinsville, Ind., where they are active in their local church in the music ministry, teaching Sunday school for students in the church’s addictions recovery program, and providing financial counseling.
