Dr. Marty Marriott, president of 海角原创, stepped up聽to explain the interruption, naming Jeffrey Rupp the 5,000th graduate of MBU. He read a brief biography of Jeffrey Rupp, gifted him with a special clock, and encouraged the audience to celebrate this significant milestone in 海角原创鈥檚 history. 鈥淲hen you look at this clock,鈥 said Dr. Marriott, 鈥淚 hope you will remember us and pray for us.鈥 Meet Jeffrey Rupp Jeffrey Rupp, son of Amy and Phil Rupp,聽hails from the small village of Cherry Creek (population 461) in Western New York. He heard about 海角原创 at a Christian camp when he was 16 years old. 鈥淢y camp counselor had a camelback hanging off his bunk,鈥 Rupp shared. 鈥淪o I asked him if he was in the army, and we started talking about ROTC. MBU ROTC Grad Leads On /rotc/mbu-rotc-grad-leads/ /rotc/mbu-rotc-grad-leads/#respond Wed, 22 Mar 2017 16:35:59 +0000 /rotc/?p=70619 In celebration of the 10th Anniversary of MBU鈥檚 ROTC program, Captain Joseph Furnari (’12) delivered a message in chapel about true satisfaction. He read from Jeremiah 2:13, which shows the children of Israel forsaking God and looking for satisfaction apart from Him. Furnari shared several experiences from his own life and his realization that only Christ can truly satisfy. Choosing MBU As a young boy, Furnari dreamed of being in the Army and enjoyed running around in the backyard pretending to be a soldier. After graduating from high school, he chose to attend MBU and joined the ROTC program. 海角原创鈥檚 ROTC program exists to equip students with leadership skills they can use for the rest of their lives. Students take ROTC classes while pursuing a regular college degree, and upon successful completion of the program, cadets become commissioned officers in the United States military. At MBU, Furnari pursued a degree in Physical Education and Health and progressed successfully through the ROTC program. He also graduated Armor Officer Basic Course, Army Reconnaissance Course, Army Airborne School, and most recently, the Adjutant General Captains Career Course. 鈥淚 can without reservation say that God used my tenure at MBU to prepare me for […]

Ladysmith and Super-Labs /rotc/ladysmith-super-labs/ /rotc/ladysmith-super-labs/#respond Mon, 20 Mar 2017 15:40:20 +0000 /rotc/?p=70611 Cadets of Charlie Company of 海角原创 and Bravo Company of University of Wisconsin Whitewater recently teamed up for a 鈥渟uper-lab鈥 training activity in Ladysmith, WI. Our leaders emphasized learning and practicing squad and platoon level tactics, and overall we enjoyed a fantastic weekend. Day One: We arrived at the training area, set up our gear, and started our first lane, or training process. My squad participated in a squad attack, and the other squad practiced a squad ambush. This first activity showed us our shortcomings and where we needed to improve. For instance, our time management, communication, and control were a little rough the first time. We trekked through difficult terrain, including crossing a frozen river that we did not see on the map. But at the end, we completed our objectives and identified specific areas to improve. After the activity, we enjoyed a delicious meal of homemade ham. I even ate thirds and entered a food coma later that night! Day Two: We headed out again for another squad lane. Leadership for the MSIII, or third-year, cadets changed in order to give everyone experience as a leader in these operations. This time, my squad conducted an ambush. […]

Ethics and Leadership /rotc/ethics-and-leadership/ /rotc/ethics-and-leadership/#respond Mon, 20 Mar 2017 15:29:48 +0000 /rotc/?p=70608   Attending the National Conference on Ethics in America at West Point gave me the opportunity to interact with individuals from聽across the United States and discuss聽tough issues. The conference was well planned, and we enjoyed listening to a variety of speakers. Both civilians and military students sat at each table. This arrangement聽allowed for a diverse range of perspectives to fuel meaningful conversations. Overall, we discussed different ways leaders can promote positive ethical change in organizations, and several ideas stood out to me. Learning from Others For one thing, I learned to appreciate other people鈥檚 opinions in a new way. I interacted with students from schools in the South, North, and East, and we all had differing opinions on issues of the day. For instance, each of the students at my table shared different ideas about changing the atmosphere of their organizations. Some students believed that personal character and presence would inspire others to join an ethical organization. Other students believed that leaders should allow their followers to promote the ethical codes of the organizations. Retired General Odierno shared his approach to ethics in organizations. He claimed that followers emulate their leader鈥檚 ethical decisions. Leaders should then allow their followers to […]

ROTC Student Invited to Play Football in China /rotc/rotc-student-invited-to-play-football-in-china/ /rotc/rotc-student-invited-to-play-football-in-china/#respond Fri, 03 Mar 2017 19:02:36 +0000 /rotc/?p=70599 My recent trip to China to play football provided many first-time experiences. For the first time, I traveled overseas and visited a new culture with different customs, foods, cities, languages, and people. Rarely did I see a sign written in English, and the people around me spoke Chinese. I had trouble navigating the city, ordering food, buying supplies, and asking questions. Fortunately, I found a few people who spoke English to help me. Otherwise, I communicated by pointing at objects and making hand motions. For the first time, I played football in front of thousands of spectators. I鈥檝e never played before such a large crowd in such a large stadium in my ten seasons of playing the sport. Along with other American football players and coaches, I was invited to China to train and play with the Chinese football players. Because football is a newer sport to China, our job was to 鈥減ioneer鈥 the sport of football in China. For instance, as American football players, we provided an example of how the game should be played. The coaches then formed two teams composed of both American and Chinese players, and we competed in the city of Shenzhen. The game, streamed […]

Ranger Challenge is a day-and-a-half long competition that takes place at Ft. McCoy once a ye ar. 聽Schools from all over the mid-West bring five and nine-man teams to compete. 聽This year they began with an opening ceremony on Friday afternoon. 聽Directly after, they began the obstacle course and confidence course events. 聽The confidence course was completely new to this year鈥檚 competition and 海角原创 had to complete it in the dark by the dim glow of their flashlights. 聽Still, 海角原创 took first in both of these events. 聽The final event of the night was the written exam, which 海角原创 also took first place in. 聽On saturday morning, the events began at 0600. 聽Teams had from 0600 to 1500 (3 P.M.) 聽to complete five events, including a weapons assembly and disassembly challenge, rope-bridge, call for fire, assault challenge, and medical challenge.聽 All were held at different points spanning a three-kilometer square area. 聽They would run from event to event weighed down by a 30-pound rucksack, a vest, ropes for the […]

Airborne! /rotc/airborne-2/ /rotc/airborne-2/#respond Tue, 01 Nov 2016 21:20:55 +0000 /rotc/?p=70441 This past June I attended Airborne School, a three week course at Fort Benning, Georgia. Over the first two weeks of the course, I and close to 400 other people from different service branches learned basic parachuting principles. This included: how to exit an aircraft properly, how to control one鈥檚 parachute during descent, how to land properly, emergency procedures on and off the aircraft, and how to use a parachute harness. During week three, the final phase of Airborne school, we conducted five qualifying jumps. This included one combat jump, three 鈥淗ollywood鈥 jumps, and one night jump. By Friday, we had completed our qualifications and graduated as Paratroopers. For myself, Airborne school was a fantastic time as well as a challenge. I am incredibly grateful for the chance to attend, and I encourage my fellow cadets to compete for a chance at earning those jump wings.聽 Airborne! Cadet MSIV Bryan Crane

My Cadet Basic Camp Experience /rotc/cadet-basic-camp-experience/ /rotc/cadet-basic-camp-experience/#respond Tue, 01 Nov 2016 21:12:50 +0000 /rotc/?p=70438 This summer, I had the opportunity to go to Fort Knox to participate in Cadet Initial Entry Training which is now known as Basic Camp. I was there from July 10th to August 9th as a part of the 6th regiment. The goal of this training was to teach cadets basic soldier skills as well as to prepare them to be leaders in their respective ROTC programs as they gain more responsibilities in the coming years. While in training, me and my fellow cadets were taught various tactics and skills which we will continue to develop in the future. My personal highlights from this training were the marksmanship training, the gas chamber, the grenade assault course, the high ropes course, the repel tower, and the first aid instruction. Overall, I am glad I had the opportunity to participate in this training to help better myself in numerous aspects. CDT Trey Graham
