Nursing Students Now Nursing Leaders /mbu-news/nursing-students-now-nursing-leaders/ Tue, 19 May 2020 14:32:04 +0000 /?p=108255 Nursing students are some of the most dedicated and hardworking students on campus. Every clinical, long night, and big exam moves each nursing student one step closer to becoming a certified healthcare worker. The seniors this year had a very unusual semester to overcome. But they are ready to launch into the world as christian nurses. Alyssa Turcotte聽 “I thought that being a nurse simply meant having medical knowledge and performing nursing skills,” says Alyssa. “I now understand the importance of all aspects of a person including their physical, psychosocial, and spiritual wellbeing.” During her time in the program, she learned that God can use nursing mightily. Through the rigors of nursing school, Alyssa also met health challenges of her own. But God brought her to completion of her degree in his perfect timing. This summer, she will work as a camp nurse at the Wilds of New England before returning home to Wisconsin to nurse in a local hospital.聽 Shani Caves聽 Also a native of Watertown, Shani says that her time in nursing school gave her the confidence to step outside her comfort zone and gain confidence. “There were many times I felt that I couldn鈥檛 do it, I […]

A Salute to MBU Senior Educators /mbu-news/a-salute-to-mbu-senior-educators/ Mon, 11 May 2020 20:20:38 +0000 /?p=108108 Educators for the Future College is designed to be a time of growth, learning, and development. Specifically at MBU, teacher education is built to train effective leaders in the classroom and send them out to make a difference as educators Commencement is a time to celebrate their accomplishments. But it is also a celebration of their purpose to develop more leaders in their own future classrooms. To celebrate the future ministry of our senior Education majors, we want to highlight their growth at MBU that foreshadows the impact they will have as educators for years to come. Savanna Paruch聽 Originating from Colorado, Savanna came into college with a big heart ready to love and work with kids. As she worked through classes and fieldwork, Savanna began to see the impact that she could have on a child鈥檚 life and the significance of being a child鈥檚 teacher. Through her extension church and her personal walk with God, Savanna learned that her God has a personal plan for her life. She saw His faithfulness and grace in each step of her life through His Word and the encouragement of fellow Christians that focused her mind on Christ. We celebrate Savanna going to […]

A Heart for Christian Education /uncategorized/a-heart-for-christian-education/ Wed, 06 May 2020 17:15:06 +0000 /?p=108036 Christian Educator Philip Alsup, Ed.D., Appointed MBA Administrator After the announcement of Dr. Phil Alsup as the new administrator, the 海角原创 Baptist Academy family breathed a sigh of relief. 鈥淥f course! We know him! What a great choice.鈥 The news that Dr. Lane Hansel, a beloved administrator at MBA for the past nine years, would be transitioning to a new position at 海角原创 made many uneasy. But all recognize that Dr. Alsup is a perfect choice to fill the opening. With his passion for Christian education, high credentials, and previous experience, Dr. Alsup hopes to continue the pattern of teamwork and excellent academics offered to students at 海角原创 Baptist Academy. Call to Christian Education Alsup鈥檚 passion for Christian education was originally sparked by his own parents, who were both educators. They modeled for him the sacrifice and humility necessary in the field. But it was only after taking a hiatus from Christian education to explore a different field that his own calling was confirmed. 鈥淭hat period away solidified in my heart that ministry, specifically Christian education, was my own personal calling,鈥 he recalls. 鈥淚 returned to education and have never looked back.鈥 Although he has enjoyed his previous […]

An Encouragement in Dark Days /student-interests/an-encouragement-in-dark-days/ Tue, 21 Apr 2020 17:01:30 +0000 /?p=106806 I am still afraid of the dark. Now, it鈥檚 not that childish fear that makes me cry for my mom as I sit paralyzed on my bed. I鈥檇 say it鈥檚 more of a mature fear 鈥 just go with me on this 鈥 that makes me wonder.聽 It makes me wonder about what I can鈥檛 by handle myself. What is hiding in the darkness? The unknown. The uncontrollable. The undefined. I believe this is where the COVID-19 pandemic hides for millions of people today. In the darkness, out of their reach to control and drive away from them and their loved ones. Yes, this is another Coronavirus post. I know you鈥檙e tired of reading about it every single day in the media, but I have some encouragement that I desperately want to share with you. An Encouragement from the Psalms I was recently reading one of my textbooks for an upcoming assignment when I came across Psalm 139:7-12. “Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the […]

Justin Bachmann Senior Voice Recital Highlights /college-of-arts-and-sciencesdepartment-of-music/justin-bachmann-senior-voice-recital-highlights/ Fri, 06 Mar 2020 14:25:36 +0000 Department of Music]]> /?p=105047 Under the direction of聽Dean Kurtz, Justin Bachmann performed his senior voice recital. To be sure, this performance showed Bachmann’s dedication to his craft of singing. He said, “My favorite pastime is making music with my voice, and it has been a great adventure studying the vocal instrument.” After completing his music degree with concentrations in arranging and church music, he plans to minister in the local church as a music pastor.聽 I Never Saw a Moor First, perhaps Bachmann’s favorite performance of the night was Douglas E. Warner’s “I Never Saw a Moor.” Bachmann explained this song’s powerful allegory. “This mysterious text presents a reflection on the existence of God,” he said. “The poet claims that even though he has not seen a moor or the sea in person, he knows what they must look like because of the witness of others. Similarly, although the poet has not spoken with God or seen heaven, he is as certain of his encounters with Him as if a map had been placed in front of him.” If You’ve Only Got a Mustache Bachmann also included some humorous arrangements, such as “If You’ve Only Got a Mustache,” by Stephen Foster. “Foster is often […]

Consider Playing Sports in College /uncategorized/consider-playing-sports-in-college/ Tue, 04 Feb 2020 16:58:35 +0000 /?p=103409 This article is for the sports people. Now, I鈥檓 certainly not limiting this article to just the sports people, but I want to speak specifically to the sports lovers and those who might consider playing sports in college. First, here鈥檚 a bit of my story. My father had a tiny soccer ball in my hands and at my feet before I could even walk. At five years old, I began to play on an organized team and as I continued to grow up, I fell more and more in love with the sport. Soccer became my life. I spent hours on end talking about soccer, watching soccer, and crying over the losses I faced. Let me tell you, there were many, many tears shed. And then my perspective changed. I began to understand that soccer wasn鈥檛 who I am. If you told me in high school that I would play soccer in college, I would have told you, 鈥淚 know I will.鈥 If you had told me that I would struggle with balancing sports and work and sleep, I probably would have shed some more tears. And if you had told me that I would be a stronger, more determined […]

Supreme Court Justice Daniel Kelly Visits MBU /events-press-releases/supreme-court-justice-daniel-kelly-visit-mbu/ Fri, 11 Oct 2019 15:57:17 +0000 /?p=98952 鈥淚f you have it fixed in your mind that you are a servant, and that you are exercising your master鈥檚 authority, that will keep you from doing what you ought not to do.鈥漈hat was the heart of Justice Daniel Kelly鈥檚 challenge to MBU students, to lead as a servant and not as a boss.聽 On Tuesday, October 1, Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Daniel Kelly visited the campus of 海角原创 to speak at the Business Breakfast Series and address students during an assembly. Kelly talked about the rule of law in Wisconsin, and how protecting the separation of powers, even when that power means limiting his own, is vital for the preservation of liberty. Authority from the People According to Kelly, the people of Wisconsin are looking for two qualities in a Supreme Court justice. One faithful to the Constitution as it is written, and one who knows the difference between a boss and a servant. 鈥淭he authority I exercise as a Supreme Court justice 鈥 that authority is not mine. It doesn鈥檛 belong to me or to the office. It belongs to the people,鈥 he says, 鈥淭hey don鈥檛 sell the authority or give it away, but they loan […]

Collaboration Theme Enlivens Music Prep Recitals /uncategorized/collaboration-theme-enlivens-music-prep-recitals/ Mon, 15 Jul 2019 02:57:59 +0000 /?p=92184 A mother-daughter duet, a fun piano piece with the rest of the family playing percussion, a string quintet 鈥 and more! Collaboration was the theme of Music Prep recitals this semester, and students rose to the challenge of brainstorming unique ideas and then putting everything together. 鈥淭he collaboration theme was highly motivating for my son,鈥 comments Sharon Anderson. 鈥淗e greatly enjoyed each part of it, from handing out everyone鈥檚 music to organizing the practices to coaching younger siblings who were also participating. The experience of playing together gave my children a newfound appreciation for the joy of making music as a family!鈥 Collaborating with others not only makes music more enjoyable, as Mrs. Anderson observed, but it also teaches patience and active listening skills, as everyone involved needs to listen to others鈥 parts in addition to their own. Dr. Jane Brotski was asked to collaborate with her daughter at the last minute, learning these skills at warp-speed: 鈥淪ofia was excited to collaborate her piano piece with a friend who is also a percussionist. Unfortunately, a week prior to the event, her friend realized she could not make the recital. I was asked to step in and accompany Sofia playing 4 […]
