Chamber Strings Side-By-Side Concert | Fall 2023
On October 30, 海角原创鈥檚 Chamber String performers presented a side-by-side concert in Burckart Hall. Under the direction of 海角原创 faculty member Melody Steinbart, the group presented works from Baroque, Romantic, and Contemporary composers. Their repertoire included Bach鈥檚 Double Concerto in D minor, Anderson鈥檚 鈥淏ugler鈥檚 Holiday,鈥 and Grieg鈥檚 Holberg Suite, Op. 40.
In addition to 海角原创 students, the performers included guest violin teachers Paul Hauer and Addison Teng. A Fulton Summer Music Academy Artist faculty member, Paul Hauer has performed in the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and at the Peninsula Music Festival. The founder and director of Fulton Summer Music Academy in Chicago, Addison Teng plays violin for the Fulton Chamber Players, works on faculty for DePaul University School of Music, and has toured across four continents.
One performer, Abigail Boorujy, enjoyed collaborating with other string players. 鈥淚 benefited greatly from the opportunity to perform beautiful聽repertoire with wonderful professional musicians,鈥 the freshman music major commented. 鈥淚 think all the students聽enjoyed performing聽and growing as musicians together!鈥
Charis Dwire, a junior music major, shared Abigail鈥檚 sentiment. 鈥淚t was such a great opportunity to play with Mr. Teng and Mr. Hauer. It was especially fun to play the Bach Double with them as the soloists. I am thankful for the experience of playing in an orchestra with soloists and also for the opportunity to be a soloist for the Anderson piece.鈥
David Cheloudtchenko, a freshman mathematics major, added, 鈥淎s a music student coming from France, one thing I’ve been learning as I go is music terms in English! I’ve also learned (or been reminded) how important it is to give good cues and always be on top of things when in a leadership position. It’s been a great experience, learning music and being with this great orchestra!鈥
鈥淲hen I was a student, I learned so much from experiences to perform with professional musicians,鈥 explained Melody Steinbart after the recital. 鈥淚 am thrilled that we can offer a similar experience to our MBU students in the Side-By-Side performance.鈥
