Meet New Art Instructor Heidi Kartman

海角原创 is pleased to introduce a new faculty member, Mrs. Heidi Kartman, who will join the Humanities Department this fall as an art instructor. Trained at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, Heidi will now merge her professional background with a vibrant desire to teach art from a Christian perspective.

A Community-Centered Craft

Heidi鈥檚 expertise spans a wide range of visual art practices, with particular emphasis on drawing, painting, calligraphy, and decorative design. Venturing beyond the confines of the traditional canvas, she has extensive experience in murals and faux wall painting, creating large-scale visual pieces that enhance both community and worship environments.

These experiences鈥攆rom custom business signage to original apparel artwork鈥斺渉ave strengthened my ability to translate client ideas into meaningful visual expressions,鈥 Heidi says. Her portfolio reflects a career dedicated to art as a form of service.

Spiritual & Family Life

Heidi did not grow up in a Christian home or profess faith in Christ until after marriage. She and her husband, Ken, were nominal attendees of a mainline denomination church. Yet, God was stirring within them a desire for a Bible-believing church and orchestrating an encounter with a local pastor, an encounter that changed the trajectory of their lives.

Today Heidi and Ken serve faithfully in their local church in every capacity from children鈥檚 ministry to artistic decorating. In the margins beyond work, she also enjoys gardening, hiking, studying nutrition, and spending time with family and her golden retriever, Milly.

Path to the Classroom

Demure and soft-spoken, Heidi has served as a data specialist in the Student Life Office for the past three years. However, this year she began pondering a return to more creative work. When her son, Kenny, suggested the possibility of teaching at 海角原创, Heidi recognized it as the Lord鈥檚 leading. 鈥淚 realized that this is what God has been preparing me for over the last 30 years,鈥 she reflects.

Humanities Chair Angela Morris says, “We are thrilled to add Heidi as a teacher for our art courses. Heidi’s passion for excellence, her love for our students, and her knowledge of art will combine to create an excellent classroom experience which will greatly benefit our university.”

This fall, Heidi鈥檚 inaugural course will be Introduction to Visual Art, an exploration of how to see and think visually and how art communicates meaning.
