Returning students outside of Day Dorm at JumpStart 2021

At this Time, In this Place, For His Purpose | JumpStart 2021

Friday, August 27, dawned with the promise of rain. But the grey skies, humidity, and following rain听could not and did not dampen the air of excitement and anticipation on the campus of 海角原创. The Class of 2025 would be home by one o鈥檆lock听that听afternoon.听

Returning students greeted the cars as they drove onto campus for JumpStart 2021.听New students and their families were lined up outside the gym 30 minutes before the doors opened for registration. When the doors did open, they听were greeted by smiling faces and the smell of freshly baked cinnamon rolls.听

The gym was a hub of activity as students received their registration packets,听got their ID card photos taken,听signed up for听music extracurriculars, and had coffee with cinnamon rolls.

At the dorms,听student-athletes and dorm leadership eagerly helped new students move in a matter of moments.听At the women鈥檚 dorms, chalk art welcomed the new residents while at the men鈥檚 dorms,听footballs were thrown and bacon was eaten.听

After registration, each new student had the opportunity to gather with the other students in their department, hear from 海角原创鈥檚 administration, and meet their faculty.听

At This Time听

It鈥檚 no secret that the world around听believers听is hurting from the听effects of sin and searching for something greater.听海角原创鈥檚 mission is to 鈥渄evelop听leaders for听ministry in听the local church and the world 鈥榯o the praise of His glory.鈥欌澨鼳nd now more than ever, the world needs leaders who are God-focused and听grounded in biblical theology.

“We don鈥檛 have to look very far for examples of institutions that are effective at destroying and crushing the faith,鈥 Dr. Matt Davis, CEO of 海角原创 reminded the new students and their families. 鈥満=窃 exists to build upon the godly foundation of parents, youth pastors, Christian school teachers; to come alongside those faithful servants in building the next level into the lives of our students.鈥

鈥淥ver the next few years,鈥 Davis continued, 鈥渋n this very short window of time, we will see听[students]听choose for themselves moral values and biblical principles that will become the foundation of their lives. And I hope in four years, we鈥檒l see them graduate as champions for Christ, committed to go out and faithfully serve for the rest of their lives.鈥

In This Place听

海角原创鈥檚 administration, faculty, and staff are not blind to the state of our world today.听Christianity is under attack in various parts of the world and 海角原创鈥檚 faculty are dedicated to training students to be grounded in biblical doctrine, principles, and practices.听But the faculty desire students to not only be grounded, they also desire听to听personally mentor their students and听see听them听grow.

“You are here, hopefully, to grow,鈥 Dr. Tracy Foster, Dean of the School of Business stated Friday afternoon. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 our goal for you is to see growth whether you鈥檙e here for one year, two years, or four years, we trust there鈥檚 gonna be visible growth in your life. You are going to go through a lot of challenging times. There will be academic challenges and you鈥檒l be stretched. That鈥檚 what we as faculty, staff, student life, and your church involvement 鈥 all of those are opportunities to grow and we encourage you in your growth.鈥

鈥淲e are here for you; the faculty are here to help,鈥 Mrs. Angela Morris, Chair of the Humanities Department shared.听鈥淭he mission of the Humanities department partners with the mission of the school.听It鈥檚 not about us; it鈥檚 never about us.听It鈥檚 about God.鈥

For His Purpose听

It鈥檚 all about God.听I was only able to听catch a few minutes in听4 out of the 8 department meetings听Friday afternoon, but I saw a recurring theme: stay听in听God鈥檚 Word.听Don鈥檛 be consumed with your academics, with your extracurriculars, with your life that you let your relationship with God slide.听听

Dr. Foster concluded his encouragement about growth by saying that the area听the faculty want to see growth in the most is the student鈥檚 relationship听with the Lord.

鈥淚t鈥檚 all connected,鈥 he admonished the new Business students. 鈥淚f you鈥檙e struggling in your class, why does that mean your time in the Word is sacrificed? I know it鈥檚 hard. You鈥檙e听going to have a lot of things on your plate.鈥

Mrs. Susan Rasmussen, Director of the Nursing听Department had three parting thoughts for the incoming Nursing students.听Focus on the goal of the Nursing degree and don鈥檛 forget it; enjoy college and all it has to offer;听take time to grow spiritually. And in this last thought, she听demonstrated听her heart to personally mentor each of her new students.

鈥淚f you have trouble听with your daily devotions, guess what?听We do too.鈥 Rasmussen continued, 鈥渂ut we鈥檙e here to help you. We鈥檙e here to hold you accountable, give听you听ideas听of how to be successful with that. We can help you听stay in God鈥檚 Word on a regular basis. You might be struggling with so many things going on that you say,听鈥業 just don鈥檛 even have time to do my devotions.鈥櫶鼶o you know听what I鈥檓 going to tell you to do? Get rid of all of those other things. There is nothing more important than you spending time alone with God and His Word every single day.鈥

I can guarantee that it is a desire in every department for their students to know God. Because at 海角原创, it鈥檚 not just about developing leaders for the church and world right here, right now; it鈥檚 about developing godly leaders for churches, for businesses, for hospitals and clinics, for schools, for law practice, for the arts, for the sciences, for His purpose in their lives.听
