Welcome School of Business Faculty Member | John Voorhis

From E-commerce Ventures to the Classroom鈥擶elcome John Voorhis

We are pleased to announce alumni John Voorhis (鈥08) as a new faculty member in the School of Business, effective this fall.

John joins us following 15 years of experience in entrepreneurship and strategic sourcing. Over the course of his career, he has built, scaled, and exited two e-commerce brands and led large-scale sourcing initiatives at a Fortune 30 retailer. Drawing on both corporate and entrepreneurial experience, his goal will be to help students apply business concepts in real-world settings.

Beyond Business

John was raised in a Christian home and trusted Christ as his Savior at the age of five. At eighteen, after wrestling with God鈥檚 call on his life, he fully surrendered to the Lord. He testifies, 鈥淢y walk with Christ has shaped every aspect of my life, guiding both my family and professional calling.鈥

His wife, Samantha, is also a 海角原创 graduate (鈥07), and together they are raising eight children, ranging in age from 16 to 4. John often notes that more than any experience in business or professional life, his responsibility as a husband and father has been the most formative influence on who he is today.

The Voorhis family was involved in a church plant in the Atlanta area where John served as church treasurer and Sunday school teacher. 鈥淭hat experience,鈥 he says, 鈥渄eepened my passion for personal, life-on-life discipleship.鈥 Following that season, the family moved to West Tennessee in 2020, where they have been actively involved in ministry and discipleship.

There is no dichotomy for John; all of life is worship. 鈥淚 have a burden to teach that business and any work God has fitted us for is an act of worship when done for Him,鈥 he states. 鈥淐reating and building businesses has given me both joy and perspective on how business can be a platform for service and gospel influence.鈥 Outside of work, he enjoys trying international restaurants, playing baseball with his kids, and meeting new people.

Scope of His Work

John will be teaching such courses as Business Strategy, Principles of Marketing, and Principles of Management, with plans of developing Supply Chain Management as a new course for fall 2027. He specifies:

“I have a burden to teach business through a gospel-centered lens. I want students to see business not just as a career, but as a tool for Kingdom impact through missions, leadership, and faithful witness. My desire is to help shape students who think biblically, lead with integrity, and pursue their calling for God鈥檚 glory.”

Steve Board, interim director of the School of Business, is excited about this appointment. Citing areas of John鈥檚 expertise and his involvement in church, Board comments, 鈥淛ohn鈥檚 breadth of experience and ministry mindset will be a great asset for our school and an encouragement to our students.鈥
