2017 Music Scholarship Recipients
The MBU Music Department was pleased to see four of our students receive scholarships in yesterday鈥檚 scholarship chapel. Each of the recipients were well-deserving of their scholarships.
Priscilla Bishop, Jessica Post, Kaylee Barr, and Kaylin Heller all received scholarships between the ranges of $750 and $1500.
Priscilla Bishop received the Elmer F. Brown, Jr. Memorial Music Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to a music major who demonstrates a sincere love for Christ, who desires to use his/her musical gift for the Lord, and who desires to uphold godly, conservative music standards. Bishop鈥檚 private lesson teacher, Ruth Brown, attests to her character saying, 鈥淧riscilla works with excellence and attention to detail in her lessons. She walks in the door with an attitude ready to learn, and she loves the challenge of weekly goals. It is a blessing to work with her each week.鈥
Kaylee Barr received the Ruth E.V. Hey Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to a Church Music Major or Piano Pedagogy Major who exhibits good Christian character and is active in Christian service in the local church. Janet Tschida, Barr鈥檚 teacher and advisor states, 鈥淜aylee demonstrates focused effort to learning as much as possible. She clearly desires to prepare herself for whatever ministry God brings her way.鈥 June Brus, Barr鈥檚 private lesson instructor states, 鈥淜aylee looks forward to a lifetime of serving the Lord through her God-given musical gifts. She puts her all into improving her piano skills, digging out the smallest details in her quest to bring the music to life.鈥
Jessica Post received the Fine Arts Music Scholarship, a scholarship presented to a student in his/her junior or senior year who exhibits godly Christian character and has a heart for ministry. Post鈥檚 private lesson teacher, Dr. David Brown, says of Post 鈥淔rom the day we talked her into changing her major to Music Ed, she鈥檚 been 鈥榓ll in.鈥 She has excelled in playing euphonium, conducting, and coaching rehearsals. I commend Jessica to you as a model of what we want in our Music Education graduates here at MBU. She鈥檚 a credit to the profession.鈥
Kaylin Heller received the Hope Pfeiffer Memorial Scholarship, a scholarship given to a female music major or minor who is hard-working and demonstrates a commitment to being involved in full-time ministry in the local church or Christian school through teaching or performance skills. Dawn Lawler, Heller鈥檚 private flute teacher remarks, 鈥淜aylin is a beautiful musician, and a very hard worker, always striving to be the best player she can be.鈥
