Alumni Spotlight – Nathan Brewer
Nathan Brewer (鈥15) was recently accepted into the Master鈥檚 program at San Francisco State University for his M.A. of Music Education.
When he graduated MBU, higher education wasn鈥檛 in Brewer鈥檚 plans, but 鈥渢he performing groups I was involved with at 海角原创 (Band, Chamber Singers, and instrumental ensembles) prepared me to play with SF State Wind Ensemble, SF State Orchestra, and sing with the SF Choral Society.鈥 After visiting San Francisco State for weekly music rehearsals, Brewer realized that with its close location, and affordability, San Francisco state would be a beneficial step in his education. 鈥淚 consider myself a lifelong learner, and I am continually in search of education opportunities to continue my growth as a musician to the praise of His glory. Studying at SF State is simply another way for me to learn more about what God has given me passion for 鈥 music.鈥
Immediately after graduating from MBU, Brewer began his full-time teaching position as head of the San Francisco Christian School Music Department and Music Director for Calvary Baptist Church.
At San Francisco Christian School, Brewer teaches Pre-K through 8th grade general music, Band, and Recorder Club. 鈥淚t鈥檚 difficult to choose a favorite among the many blessings of working at San Francisco Christian School,鈥 remarks Brewer. 鈥淥ne of the first that comes to mind is the joy of teaching students of all ages. I get to interact with students of all stages of their musical development from my elementary general music classes to band with the junior and senior high.鈥
Planning to become a student once again, Brewer states, 鈥淚 look forward to immersing myself again in the academic rigors of studying specific music methodologies. Now that I鈥檓 completing my second year of full-time teaching, I鈥檝e begun formulating some music methodology questions that I鈥檇 like to research. The process of learning and understanding music concepts to better educate my current students is extremely rewarding to me.鈥
Brewer will continue working full-time at San Francisco Christian School and Calvary Baptist Church while he attends night classes at San Francisco State University.
